GWB Apartments

The Washington Bridge Apartments are a row of flats located above Interstate 95 in New York City. Although these buildings have excellent views of the GWB Bridge and the city, its residents experience high air and noise pollution due to the broad highway below.
This project's main challenge was to solve the noise and pollution issues and provide an eco-friendly solution for residents.
My design approach was to transform the building façades into a Sky garden; featuring trees to provide oxygen to the building, reducing pollution and affecting the residents.
Changing the current single height layout apartment into a double-height and single height layout, depending on the floor type, maximizes the square footage for residents and allows more collaborative space inside the building.
